Viewing Distance Guidelines
Most people can easily read a letter at about 120 times its height. Easily remembered guideline: 12x the letter height in inches = the viewing distance in feet. Thus, 1" letters can be read at 12'. Because engraved letters have clean edges on high-contrast engraving stock, they're visible along the bottom shelves where lighting is limited.
